A bizarre fish with human-like teeth has been caught in the United States.
Jennette’s Pier shared a picture of the fish on Facebook this week.
The fish was identified as a sheepshead fish, which has several rows of molars for crushing barnacles and shellfish.
The fish, with its long and wavy mouth resembling a sheep’s maw, is thought to have been given this name because of the resemblance.
Nathan Martin, a regular at the pier who was just looking for an opportunity to fish that morning, reportedly reeled in what seemed like another average day on his favorite fishing spot.
Mr. Martin was looking to catch a sheepshead fish when he came face-to-face with an “enormous mouth full of teeth”.
He told McClatchy News, “It’s a very good fight when you’re fighting on the line, it’s a really good catch, and it tastes very good”.
Commonly found in North and South America, the sheepshead fish is a deep-bodied, compressed marine fish with sharp dorsal spines.
Often reaching 10-20 inches in size and sometimes growing to be as large as 35 inches! It has a hard mouth and sharp teeth that bear a striking resemblance to human teeth.
