Following a widespread backlash from its users, the social media platform OnlyFans has announced that it will delay making changes to its policies on content creation.
The content subscription service announced last week that they’ll be blocking all sexually explicit photos and videos from October in order to censor inappropriate material.
OnlyFans, a content platform similar to Instagram and Facebook, has announced that it will continue business as usual for the time being. It confirmed on Wednesday that its controversial policy change scheduled for next week was postponed following a strong backlash from creators who would be affected by this new rule.
OnlyFans posted on twitter that it would “continue to provide a home for all creators”.
“Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard,” said the company”.
“We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned 1 October policy change”.
“OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators”.
The company announced that content creators will be emailed shortly with more details.
Content creators responded positively to their decision, however, others voiced concerns that many other creators have already found new platforms and may not return.
One OnlyFans creator from London commented “So, it is short-term good news for sex workers reliant on the platform – I would like to see this as the start of increased support, celebration and championing of sex-worker rights by OnlyFans”.
“But I think there may well have been enough anxiety caused to see many models continuing the move to other platforms,” he told BBC News.
OnlyFans takes 20% of all payments from its content creators. The platform has seen a 75% increase in new creators since last year.
It is currently unclear if the delay will be permanent.
